When something terrible happens, we often reflect on our own lives and feel a sense of relief that WE are living, healthy and in that moment thankful for what we have. We don’t grasp the concept that in a blink of an eye everything can change. On July 9th after being born a healthy beautiful baby girl our niece, Abby was diagnosed with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy (MLD), a rare terminal disease that affects the white matter of the brain.
We just got back from spending time with them in California and saw firsthand Abby’s deteriorating condition, the pain Hugh (my husband Carl’s brother) his wife Leslie and older daughter Hailey (4 years old) face as they watch their baby die before their eyes.
We have established the Abigail Patricia Walpole Trust to help them financially cope with the devastating changes they continue to face as Abby’s condition changes. Please visit www.weloveabby.org. I know that every family member or friend of ours can make a difference whether it is a financial contribution or prayer, they need us to come together and provide them strength to get through this.
I will be going back out to San Francisco soon to help care for them, and I thank everyone in advance for your patience and support. Yours truly, Kim and Carl Ford
