Yes, I did. I was playing around on the internet last night and came across a tri, about 45 minutes away this weekend. Also, my two oldest kids want to do the kids race which they are offering the same day. The Penn Trafford Triathlon takes place in the high school pool. Just what I need, a 25-yard pool which is just like where I have been practicing. I was mostly intrigued by this one because the swim is only 200 yards, my weakness, and fear. I am pretty confident I can handle that distance without hyperventilating. The bike is 11 miles on roads with traffic and the run 3 miles. I guess the remainder of my week will be busy training with a rest day Friday.
I can’t believe Matt showed any interest at all in the event. Matt just turned 12 and does not enjoy running. As a matter of fact, we always joke with him that he doesn’t lift up his knees, like a continuous drag of his legs and feet. He was so excited when he saw his age bracket and what he would need to do to complete the race. His race for 12 and 13-year-olds is a 100 yd swim, 2-mile bike, and a 1-mile run. Last night he even grabbed my running shoes and went for a mile run on his own. Go, Matt! Now let’s see how he does in the pool after school today. I don’t believe it will be pretty, but I don’t think he will have trouble completing the four lengths. Kat, our little road warrior, demanded that she do the race as well. She just turned 10 and ran her 1st 5k with me in May. About two weeks ago she flipped over her handlebars on her bike, and she seems like the kid who is always prone to injuries. Her swim will be pretty rough as she has two lengths and only a 1/2 mile run. She can do it!
Of course, Zane wants to compete in the race as well, but we are having him sit out this race. I will most likely be on the course when the kids start, and I don’t want to be stressed about getting our 7-year-old setup and to start on his own. He is already signed up for two of his own this summer in July and August. So proud of my crazy kids. Go, family!!!
