Dear Mr./Mrs. SUV Thief, I want to start by thanking you for stealing our Ford Expedition on 76th Street in the middle of the night not to wake our children. Extra thanks for waiting until the end of our vacation to take it, not to spoil the entire trip. Or waiting one more night when we had the vehicle completely packed with all of our belongings. Thank you for not stealing our beach cart, boogie boards and Thule roof rack which were sitting next to the vehicle. Thank you for not wanting more than just our vehicle and trying to break into our rental home. You picked a good time, so one of our kids did not accidentally walk into the garage and catch you stealing it. Thanks for not keeping it for 30 days while we waited out our insurance policy time frame for a stolen vehicle. Thanks for leaving it at a hotel in Summerville, SC damaged enough that it caught the attention of the State Police. We were told we have a lot of front end damage, tire damage and the air bags are deployed, but we are truly thankful that our family was not in the SUV during the crash. Thanks for giving me a story to share that might help one person not end up in our situation and now exercise caution even in a friendly neighborhood. Sometimes looking at the bright side of a situation gives you a different perspective. Our children have been blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people in this world. Unfortunately, not all people are wonderful. Thanks for showing them firsthand that evil does exist. What we do with that evil is up to us. We as a family choose to persevere and dig deep for the sun behind so many dark clouds. The sun is there; sometimes we just have to work a little harder to find it. We are thankful to be so blessed.
